The energy of the sun is one that holds the responsibility of the air movement. Moving air is known as the wind and it has the kinetic energy. 250 years ago, windmills have been invented by the Persians and they are gaining much of popularity. The modern windmills convert the wind energy into their mechanical energy or the electrical energy.
The windmill is consisted of fan-like structure being mounted at some height on the strong support. The blades are well designed, thus, whenever the wind hits them, a different kind of pressure will be generated. Such different will then produce the turning effect, making them to rotate. Actually, the height of the windmill, its shape and its blades are being decided based on average velocity of the wind and factors on the local environment.
On the other hand, the rotational motion of the windmill is being used for getting mechanical work just like the water into the lifting pump. Whenever the turbine is being connected into the windmill, the electricity could be generated. The only thing is that, the current made by the windmill could not be used up for commercial purposes.
In order to make a large amount of current, the farm for wind energy is being established where there are already a number of windmills for a large region. In Gujarat, the wind-energy farms are being located at Okha Mandavi, Dhank and Lamba nearby Porbandar. India is the place where you could find the largest windfarm. It is near the Kanyakumari in Tamilnadu, generating 300 MW of electricity.
