Grafting involves joining together of two parts from different plants. These parts come in close contact, join mutually and grow as a one plant afterwards. Some part of a fully grown or developed plant is attached to a part of a young plant. This results in an early flowering in the latter. Part of plant having roots onto which graft is made is known as “stock”. The part of plant that is joined on to the other plant is called “scion”.
Benefits of Grafting
This is a great method to combine the useful features of plants from different families. It is also beneficial for plants that have decreased germination capability and increased dormancy period. This technique is used on large scale to increase the production of mango.
